I think my favorite thing from the win vs Baylor was watching our…
…guards bully their guards. In particular watching Spencer Johnson, Jaxson Robinson and Trevin Knell get into the act.
Here Spencer Johnson shows it’s better to give than to receive and uses a Baylor guard staple, the push-off, to shrug off the Baylor defender and step back into a 3pt shot. Earlier in the season our guards were getting called for moves like this (saw both Dallin Hall and Trey Stewart get called multiple times) while Big12 teams have been getting away with it against us and mauling our guards relentlessly all season. I Was a little surprised the refs swallowed their whistle on this move. https://www.youtube.com/watch?si=o76A2ACTGMSDoGS4&v=wa8Pt8Jc01Y&feature=youtu.be
This one was priceless. Jalen Bridges makes a strong drive to the hoop with Waterman defending him. Waterman seems to lose his footing and tumbles to the ground while Bridges hits the tough runner and then motions “too small” as he runs up the court. Next time down the court Jaxson Robinson tells Bridges, “C’mon son!” https://www.youtube.com/watch?si=73eVbz-uoUXO7CXh&v=MmxvIiHdBSU&feature=youtu.be
Last, loved seeing Trevin Knell grind for points and not just rely on the 3. He’s starting to channel his inner Tyler Haws with his floor game. On this possession he gets fouled by Walter’s at least 3 times, once out top trying to curl over the screen and then gets bumped 3 times on the drive, should’ve been an and 1, before finishing through contact and motioning to Walters “too small”. Walter’s had been defending Knell quite a bit leading upto this and Walter’s had been getting away with a ton of contact popping Knell running over screens. Loved the grit from Knell to maintain composure and focus. https://www.youtube.com/watch?si=ala3mP6Mlurfo5e9&v=YcswzQqk8zQ&feature=youtu.be
