1st round picks for an “outside shot” at drafting the guy they liked.

They traded up to draft a quarterback. They knew that Lawrence was gone and they knew Zach was gone. They would not have traded up unless they thought one of the remaining QBs (Lance, Fields, Jones) was worth the third overall pick. Maybe they liked Zach more than Lance. They probably did. They probably also liked Lawrence better than Lance too. But they definitely didn’t trade up for an “outside shot” to draft one of them. They traded up because they liked at least one of the other guys enough to take 3rd overall.

Suggesting that the 49ers, one of the most well-run franchises in the NFL, suddenly found themselves stuck at #3 because an “outside chance” to take Zach didn’t work out is asinine.
