The expanded 12-team CFP will last 2 years. The Big Ten and SEC will then flex their muscles and take over the biggest NY6 bowl games as in-conference playoff matchups and absolutely control the CFP structure.
I saw a stat that if the SEC and Big Ten add just Washington, Oregon, Notre Dame, Miami, Florida State, and Clemson, they will have every NCAA football champion since 1960, except for Pitt '77, BYU '84, and Colorado '90. They will also have 149 of the 165 teams (90%) that have finished in the final AP top 3 since 1968!
I also think that group has every program in the top-25 of football attendance and TV ratings, except for may be Virginia Tech and BYU - depending on the year.
