Player that was my favorite and how I was bummed not to have recorded it. He messaged me and said he had VHS tapes and offered to make me copies. I thanked him and said that I didn’t want to inconvenience him recording from one VHS to another but he insisted and said “anything for another Cougar fan” and asked where I lived so I gave him my address.

He goes “oh cool I’m in the same area” and I didn’t really think he anything further other than I might get a package with some old BYU games.

A few days later….knock on our door. My wife is like “there’s some dude outside holding a box” so I go and open the door and he introduces himself and said “I made you copies of those games.”

I was blown away, and kinda shocked that he’d not only make me copies but come to my house! Figuring he wasn’t likely to be a crazy if he had made me copies of byu games, I invited him in.

A bit of a quirky guy, LOVED byu sports and as nice as could be. A few times I’m pretty sure my wife looked in to see who this guy was that was in our living room and she had no idea who he was lol. Being like 18-19 years older than me he had seen a lot more byu games, but we talked LaVell and BYU games and about some of the greats and he was obviously just a huge fan. He couldn’t have been nicer - even though it was a bit odd that he’d just showed up at my house.

After maybe a talk for over an hour our chat ended but it was honestly a really cool thing he did in making those 5-6 VHS tapes. He seemed extremely happy to do it though, just like a nice way to do something for another cougar fan that he had never even met.

I’m sad to have read of his passing, hopefully he’ll see a lot of BYU wins in coming years.
