Less than 20lbs is crazy light. Sounds like a great race bike. I don't see many
out on the trails with something like that though. Most have a one bike quiver and are on some sort of full suspension trail bike with around 130-160mm of travel. It's pretty hard to get a medium travel full suspension under 30 lbs even when it's all carbon. But anyways, I digress, I'd agree with you that road bike rides are typically longer. But that doesn't necessarily make them harder, imo. As for myself, I've done the same ride (paved) on a road bike and a MTB and felt like I was flying when I switched to the road bike. The difference in ease of pedaling was night and day.
