Mike Vorel’s Seattle Times article regarding the “Rocky Financial Situation at UW” is yet another reminder that BYU’s fiscal conservatism (aka The Church) is a huge blessing and benefit.
Washington, even with a terrific 10 win season and W over Texas in their bowl game; and even with excellent season ticket sales….is nevertheless expecting a $6M deficit for fiscal year 2023 (July 1, 2022 to June 30, 2023).
On the other side of the state, WSU’s President Schulz admits publicly that he expects the new media deal to “be flat”, and not much different from the current media deal (about $21M). A dourly public admission indeed. (Seattle Times, same article).
As a Y fan, it makes me appreciate shrewd leadership and private school oversight from SLC….and also puts into focus why the PAC is stressed and why Kliavkoff is still silent. There’s a lot riding on this deal, even for a school rumored to be dating the B1G.
