It's because they are tech leaders. If you notice Toyota has "slipped" in the rankings? Why? Because the Tundra and
Sequioa is new and their new platforms are having teething issues. Once those are 5-10 years old, all the reviewers will say "Toyotas are so OLD and OUTDATED!" and then praise them for being class-leading reliability.

Rover, on the other hand, is not only a small company with minimal resources (the parent company is TaTa, an Indian Firm, which can hardly compete with the GMs and Toyotas of the world), yet they are always pioneering their tech.

The new Defender's suspension design and traction control software is decades ahead of the competition, nobody is even close. But the penalty you pay is for all that complexity is potential electrical issues.

Those issues are exactly why I steered clear of the New Defender (I can't afford TFL-Trucks issues that they had with theirs on the trail), and instead got a Tacoma, but you can also see why they are going to be near last on the rankings.

The real kicker is "number of issues per 1000 vehicles" or whatever the stat is. When you look at the stats........sure Land Rover is "last", but it's not as far behind the leader as say in 2003 when they were having real problems.
