What downsides? Miss me with the “regular season doesn’t matter” complaints,
with first round byes and home field advantage on the line and less than 10% of the field getting in, you’re not going to see .500 teams getting in like the NFL.
If your goal is to name a “best team in the sport,” you have to use polls at the end of the year. Those polls exist, use them to crown your champ if you want.
