The article comes across as an excuse for the Fib to repeat the debunked
volleyball racials slurs fiasco.
They spend about 2 paragraphs talking about the contract, and 6 paragraphs rehearsing the Duke incident and Staley's supposed reasons for cancelling.

If BYU has a signed contract it'd be pretty easy to prove

It'll probably cost more to pay the lawyers than what you would actually get

Probably but let’s see how much SC wants to pay in legal fees

Judgements of suits usually pay for the petitioner’s attorney fees too.

BYU always takes the high road. Gets old but that's reality.

The contract was never signed...

Then why did they need to cancel?

To "make a statement" I'm guessing.

It could still be an enforceable contract if both sides agreed to it but never

The only people being sued will be BYU for offering up the fan to the mob

BYU offered no one up. The mob searched it out and made it a thing.

They might be able to sue on the original contract that SC signed

And for byu a lawsuit for 25k is definitely not worth it

So why did you cancel a game/contract that did not yet exist? Hmmm.

BYU will probably not fight it, but (with few exceptions) contracts do not have to be writing to be effective

True but it’s also often a defense that we agreed in principle but we all agreed

Better for BYU to ignore it and move forward. Schedule someone else.
