just because some are ready to move on doesn't mean others have to. I get what you are saying but I think it's a character issue. I get all the "i need to do what's best for myself" arguments. But character is doing the right thing even if it isn't what's best for you. Some kid is missing out on a scholarship because of this stunt it's a lack of character. Why not leave before the season starts rather than create some arbitrary benchmark of what it will take to keep him there? He has no idea what his usage would have been during the rest of the season. His choice is selfish from the beginning by planning to leave if his arbitrary benchmark isn't met i'd have no issue with his leaving before the season. This is a character issue simply put
