The market demand is for affordable housing, but that's not always profitable
for builders for various reasons. It's also difficult in many cities due to their zoning rules which mandate single-family homes rather than condos/townhomes.

Increasingly, the younger generation is comfortable with smaller homes, but it's the boomers/millennials (our generation) that try to keep that type of housing from being built, and the city infrastructure that would be needed to support it (things like transit, etc.).
