Right, but that's pretty much the point of my post. The $ per square foot cost
of a house hasn't changed much, but the market has demanded bigger houses, so they cost more.
So the comparison is 2.9x income for a 1600 SQ ft home in 1973, or 4.8x income for one that's almost twice as big.

So the comparison would be that houses are about 4.8x income now vs only 2.9x in 1973. Seems relavant.
