original name needed to be replaced in part because it was misleading - people heard Dixie and thought somewhere in the deep south not Utah.
So the best and brightest in academia got together and chose another misleading name.
I get that the choosers chose a name that is supposedly safe because someone else already did it. That is academia for you.
Why Texas Tech, Georgia Tech, and Virginia Tech originally chose their names - I have not studied that history.
But if you have 50 to 100 years of history behind something, its easier to live with some deficiencies in a name.
Not arguing that they are guilty of "Deceiving". I get that every degree nowadays, even an english degree, is going to require doing a work on a computer which is "Tech".
