And fully admit I went to a low tier crappy medical school with no academic affiliation (community med school).
But did residency training at Utah - and their hospital affiliation/prep for residency is pretty top notch. Their medical students are very well prepared.
For fellowship - I realized training at Utah carries a lot of weight. I definitely punched above my pay-grade (based on lack of research) but got interviews in a super competitive field (match rate less than 5% for my specialty) that I had no business getting, (once again, due to lack of research/publications - which one program director directly told me during the interview that candidates typically have pages of publications) based on the Utah brand/name.
Sorry, long-winded way of saying the hospital affiliation is what makes the med school top notch in my mind. So source is definitely my subjective opinion - but from fellowship interviews, Utah was a very well known and respected brand in the medical world.
