Baseball officiating is a crapshoot. Have they instituted any technology to handle bad calls by humans yet?
Soccer has 1 ref calling fouls. Totally subjective officiating on what is and isn't worthy of a PK or free kick, etc. Massive flopping culture.
Hockey I don't know or follow, can't comment.
Basketball a joke. NBA scandal with league with its thumb on the scale. Everyone accepts it just depends on "how they're calling the game." It's a game of fouls. Nonstop whistles and stops due to infractions of the rules, especially at the end of games.
I haven't written an essay on it, but yeah, most sports are fundamentally flawed in this regard. If you're trying to achieve some level of elevated position or rank over others, it's not entirely up to you, it's up to some person.
I know it sounds silly, but when I was thinking about other competitive events, it's interesting to assess which ones require subjective human judgement and which don't, etc. (a lot of Olympic sports which are feats of strength or dexterity, chess, video games, marathons, etc)
