He probably HAD to interview to maintain leverage with Holmoe
With a BYU offer still pending, if he had turned down the Oregon interview Holmoe would know he had Kalani where he wanted him. Since no BYU agreement was reached yet, he had to take the interview to continue to negotiate from strength.
