Olympic medal programs are the least of China's issues.
I love the Chinese I have met so don't misinterpret this as racism. I grew up with load of Chinese Americans and they make up many of my close friends. I have always been fascinated with that country and wanted to serve my mission there (obviously that didn't happen.)

Their government is scary. Their economic manipulation is rampant. If it seems to anyone that this is a conservative or liberal belief then you have not been paying attention. CNN is certainly not a conservative news source and they have lots of articles about the interment camps and discrimination against certain genetic heritage groups in China. In them things like government allowed forced labor, rape, forcibly cutting off their hair to make wigs etc happen. It is hard to not see some level of Nazi like behavior from their government. On top of it the expectation of honor does not allow the culture of those in government to admit to mistakes etc. If that does not rise to the top of concerns it should. Read up about Chernobyl in the USSR and how it was covered up and denied because perceptions had to be kept up. Some level of transparency in government is an absolute must.

This from a country the makes up 18% of the world population and a large part of world GDP. I just keep hoping that the younger generation, many of who have been educated in the US, will see some of the freedom and transparency in our country and help it integrate more fully there. I have no idea how true this is but I hear most of the highest political and government posts go to those who test in the Chinese universities. If that is true I am not sure how change will occur.
