But from the world in general. I actually do feel bad for Simone in many ways. It wasn’t healthy how she was treated by USA gymnastics and the media and she has every right to do whatever she wants. It was criminal what they did to her in so many ways. To me that goes without saying.
What interest me, and maybe this is weird, is people’s reactions to the situation and how it mirrors societal factors.
And noticing that there’s things you just can’t say anymore and realizing it as it’s happening in real time. This post- as crass as it sounds- is more of a social commentary on my part of saying… I remember when I was a kid if someone quit in the middle of a competition you could call them a quitter or a chicken and it didn’t sound appalling. Now if you do you will get comments like you’re seeing here. It’s interesting to me. Sorry if it hurts anyone’s feelings or ruins a day.
And I would be interested to see if anyone would actually do it. I’d be curious to see how it goes.
