the eastern time zone. BYU would be at a major tactical disadvantage with regards to road play. We would be playing the majority of our road games in the eastern or central time zones (we never play well on the east coast), for crying out loud!
It makes absolutely no sense whatsoever for other reasons, too. We have practically no historical ties to any of its member institutions, and we are a very, very poor fit culturally.
It would make much more sense for BYU to re-join the MWC, rekindle regional ties, and continue our rivalries with Boise State and SDSU. It would be an obvious step backwards, but let’s be clear...so would joining the AAC. If we’re going to join a G5 conference for imaginary access to a mythological national championship playoff scenario, let’s join one that makes sense geographically, culturally, and tactically.
