There are plenty of reasons not to join the AAC.
It currently makes no sense geographically, culturally, and financially. If it made sense to join the AAC we would have done it already.
It’s possible that changes to the playoff format will force BYU’s hand, but until we see those changes, and assess their effects, there’s no point in debating the pros and cons of AAC membership. Right now there are only cons.

What possible value does SDSU add? Even Boise is questionable. None of the contortions people pull to make this bad
