Drew Brees really has done a lot of work with Taysom, and Taysom soaked it all in knowing he was learning from one of the NFL’s best passers in history.
The cadence that you could watch and hear was one thing, but the footwork to make sure he was always in a good throwing position looked just like Brees.
If Taysom looked more accurate (those two long flutter balls aside) than we remember, it’s because he was. And he was more accurate because he has clearly worked hard to improve his mechanics.
I believe the flutter balls were nerves and we’ll see better throws on the long ball going forward. It was his first ever start. He had a right to be nervous.
Rogers wouldn’t have worked with Taysom the way Brees has worked with Taysom. I truly believe that there was a very narrow set of circumstances where Taysom would have been given the time and coaching to blossom into an NFL worthy QB. Outside of Brees and Payton in NO, I’m not sure which they would have been, though.
