The “fear mongers” aren’t to blame for this, either.
Our inability and/or unwillingness to keep case numbers and infections at a reasonable number is to blame for this.
There are definitely fear mongers playing this for political or personal gain, but that’s not what is causing our case numbers to be unacceptably high. And make no mistake, it is our current case numbers, not irrational fear of the virus that is driving policy (to play or not play football this fall) right now.
