UCF was outside the top 11 this system would have taken at the end of the regular season.
Auto-in because they were Highest non-P5. If ND was 2 losses UCF would have been out.
But your right that this system is good and would take care of the huge majority of potential issues including the reality of 2017.
It works so often because of the auto-bid for non-P5. Which is exactly what many here are arguing against.

Top non-P5 should be included only if the playoff is this large. But giving them a top 5 seed is dumb

I understand the argument. I just disagree. It sucks but G5 schedules are just horrible compared to P5

If it’s fed by conference championships rather than rankings, then the regular season is just as important to the end.

More important: There should be no arbitrary benefit awarded by anything other than wins and losses.
