IMO a true champion has to win it only by winning. No arbitrary rankings.
I know a tourney has to be seeded in an order, so they can be ranked for that, but elimination from contention has to be due to a loss.

So every conference champion must have a way in.
All P5 champions are in
G5 champions have their own playoff to put in at least one team.

And I don’t care how many more “at large” P5s there are. As long as every team in America has a non-arbitrary pathway to the championship.

So there is no team that can claim they should be #1 “except for bias”. You lost. The end.

If seedlings make it so another team thinks they should have made it to the championship... sorry, you lost.

Then there is one team that has literally won its way to be the national champion. And I would care 0% if people thought they weren’t the best team in America... because America wants champions that fight and win despite the odds. We love underdogs. And if Boise state beat the 2nd best G5 to get in, and then Bama, and then Ohio state, and then LSU to win it all, who could really complain?

Well if they did, I would have an answer for them: you should have won.
