Then the MLB should go to a balanced schedule.
But they don't, so the idea that you should just "win your division" and not worry about a random wild card game doesn't address the issue.
Just have both WC games start, for example, yesterday. Then make it a best of two series with the team with the worse record having to win both games. If WC have the same record, just have it be 1 game. Reduces randomness but also increases the advantage for division winners (b/c WC team would burn 2 starters). Seems like a win win
