Points per game matter, but points per game compared to other teams is
meaningless. Lots of high paced teams in college football that skew these numbers

Utah taking a knee probably balances the short field gift TD.

Not quite. That's 1 TD vs. 2 pick-sixes.

I don't think he's counting the pick 6s.

Not really. The knee happened after the offense had already destroyed the defense’s hope of affecting the outcome.

Thank goodness you guess dropped those 6 picks too.

We are definitely a bend don't break defense... but we are bending a bit too much with out of position linebackers

Scoring defense is a horrible way to judge a college defense. Quit acting like

Right, but saying they are 35th is meaningless with how many teams run up tempo

More meaningful than rushing yards. If our defense can allow 16.5 points per game, we should be able to beat teams with

Yup, its like saying Princeton is a top scoring defense in CBB

You like points per possession as a metric for basketball then, right? The same is a better metric for football too and

It is the most relevant metric to measure a defense

Look at points per drive then. It makes pace irrelevant because football gives each team basically the same # of chances

Points are the only stat that really matters. All others are only indicators for that stat. Points per drive are a way

True. But at least it was the defense that gave the gift, so that’s more fair to their rating.

But you also have to realize that Time of Possession is important.
HONOMO

Time of possession is important in its ability to drain the opposing defense, and indirectly affect score. Score is

Sure, that’s easy to do when your opponent gives you 20 points. If the offense played 75% as well as the defense did in

That stat is artificially skewed by the long drives we allow. It is a bad metric
