I've had YouTube TV for around 6 months now, and generally like the service. My biggest complaint is un-skipable commercials on the shows I record. I've been told it's because I am just viewing the VOD library because I didn't actually setup the DVR for a show. However, this doesn't work all the time. For example:
1. Battle Bots on Discovery. My son loves this show, so I saw Discovery was having a marathon of past seasons. I went to each specific show and set them to record (as opposed to just adding the show as a subscription). Now when I go to watch the show, every single show has at least 6 sets of unskippable commercials. So lame.
2. I set Man City vs West Ham to record this morning on NBCSN. I did not set a subscription to watch all Premier League games, nor to record all Man City games. I watched the game maybe 3 hours after the match finished. Unskippable ads at halftime.
It seams the shows I care about have unskippable ads no matter what I do. What am I doing wrong? I am continually told I'm a moron and that YouTube TV doesn't have unskippable ads if you do it "correctly."
For football season I'm probably going back to Direct TV for a few reasons: (i) the 30 second skip in invaluable for football, as it is great to skip between plays - YouTube doesn't have a quick 30 second skip; (ii) the guide actually shows you what's on TV for the next few days; and (iii) I actually get to skip every single ad of every single show I record.
