the conf commish stated the AAC has an open invitation for BYU. (That may have changed- but odds are it still exists.) They know BYU’s goal is the P5. So until 2024/25, BYU is not going anywhere. The AAC will wait to see what develops.
Perhaps then if BYU is not picked up BYU, BSU, SDSU, AFA, plus one would consider the move to the AAC?? They could partner with Perhaps the Texas/Tulsa schools forming a West division. Navy (May replace UConn already), Memphis, Tulane could move East forming two eight school divisions.
I AM NOT PROPOSING JOINING THE AAC... but this could be an option and create a competitive conf. In all sports.
I wouldn’t mind an agreement and bowl tie-ins with the AAC. Play four AAC schools per year plus BSU, uu, usu leaving room for four or five additional P5 schools (uu is already included) on the schedule. Use the AAC to fill the back-end of the schedule... if we schedule five additional P5, make sure one is normally a dog or average at best. Make this game our FCS foe.
If conference expansion comes and goes in 2024/25, who knows what BYU will do.
Go Cougars!!!
