I promise I'm not. I've seen hundreds (probably thousands) of mortgage
documents. They're fairly standard forms. They all reference a reconveyance fee at the time of payoff. Most people just don't know about it because they are requesting a payoff of thousands of dollars because they're selling their home and the $25 (or whatever amount) is built into it. It's so rare for people to have a small enough amount left on their mortgage to even notice these things.
