Everyone knows that an actual invite comes after negotiations and informal agreements
to terms. The actual invite is a silly formality making public the agreements that have already been made.
If you’re reasoning for believing byu never stood a chance was the absence of a formal invite than you’re revealing a severe lack of knowledge as to how conference realignment has worked in the past 15 years.
Saying “we never had an invite” is a disingenuous cop out.
