where our guy beat their guy in a 1-on-1 matchup. I'm not sure it could be done. There might have been a blown assignment and we somehow ended up in the backfield, but the QB pressure defense was completely non-existent.
Once a team got up by 10 on us, it became clear that we weren't going to score, so the stats are a little skewed on our defensive effectiveness. The other team's offense became completely vanilla (and we still often couldn't stop them).
In games where we were somehow close, the only way we could get the other team's offense off the field was via penalty. Other than that, there was no hope. I think it was the Utah game where the only thing keeping us in the game was their 11 penalties for 97 yards.
Oh, and we gave up 40 to Utah State and 33 to East Carolina.
