The Droid on Solo was scouting, but also seemed a bit comical so it did not bother me. Rose grated on me to no end, and then her little, "Now it's worth it" when she cuts the harness of the alien house thing was just so stupid.

I personally think Rey is cool. No problems with a strong female lead. But I think other male characters are deliberately under written or weakened. I think they ruined Poe in TLJ, and turned him into an insubordinate baffoon.
