I don't know if safe mode will prevent your OS from running ransomware or not. And Windows 10 is different
You can't get into safe mode the same way on most machines now. One option I can think of is to recovery os on a thumb drive, and boot to that. Maybe disconnect from the internet and run Malwarbytes off a DVD.
