BYU has always played in a situation similar to now where the academic and religious limitations. That is what made LaVell so good. He recognized those limits and found solutions.
That is also what made the KS hire so bad: we had an LDS guy that thrived in a scenario where he had more institutional limitations than BYU has that wanted in and we jerked him around.
