You're right, that argument stinks. Past performance has no bearing on future
odds. Gamblers playing roulette often think that, because the ball has landed on black 5 times in a row, the chance of it landing on black again goes down, so they bet on red. The problem is, the odds remain the same, every spin, at 50/50.
