Actually a per diem is a type of daily allowance and your OP didn't give enough to know if you have a per diem or not. All the post said was your "employer allows..."
Not to split hairs with you, but my answer was correct. I stated that "many companies" have a per diem. I never stated what the company has because the post didn't tell us.
However now you state that it has a daily limit that is not a per diem. OK, in that case it would be unethical to use money for family under those conditions.
