There is a great book called "feeling good". I don't remember the author. It
discusses the logic of depression and anxiety. Kind of helping you be aware of negative thought process and how to change it.

It is a thick book but it would be a good read for you and him. There might be other books out there aimed more at kids. If he is a good reader it may help.

Another thought is there may be something physiologicallygoing on. Like thyroid. I'm no pediatrician but it may be worth lookin into
