AAU ball is well designed basketball programs with coaches and systems.
It's a great way for kids to learn the game. Church ball is the pick-up ball mentality. They are the exact opposite of each other.

Somewhere other than Utah they might call it "AAU Ball" but it means the same thing.

AAU ball has a reputation as being "hero ball" and gets blamed for the jack-up-a-three mentality.

It's still the highest level of basketball simply because all of the best players do it. I will agree with you that

Have you watched the team? Have you played in church ball?

How about "street ball" or "playground ball"?

Thank you. Most likely they weren't even allowed to play church ball.

Back when Danny Ainge was coaching the Suns he played church ball for his ward. It was awesome but not really fair.
