I don't put a lot of credence into that; Tanner played great last year
making reads, and no - he wasn't a first read "throw it up for grabs" QB last year.
go to 1:27 in this highlight video; Here is Tanner in the Red Zone; wants to make a pass in rhythm but can't due to the pass rush; he pulls the ball back and then here is the difference between Taysom and Tanner - Tanner side steps it and makes an accurate pass to Houk for the TD - on this same play, Taysom most likely would have tucked the ball and run.
then watch 2:39 for a pass to Houk again - but what is nice about this pass is that he throws it to where Hoak WILL be, which makes Houk not need to stop running his route. From what we've seen from Taysom this year, I doubt that Houk would have been able to catch that in stride like he did.
Then here is the Cinci game- again, a couple things that stand out to me.
first, 2:44 or so is a scramble right and a comeback route - which Tanner hits very accurately; those passes were bouncing 5 yards short for Taysom vs BSU. Then, the pass at 3:03 - again, not Tanner's first option to go to Kurtz deep, but he was patient and SAW Kurtz had gotten loose behind the defender, and made a very accurate deep pass (Kurtz didn't have to move, and it hit him perfect). What we aren't seeing from Taysom this year is the continuing to look downfield if the deep ball isn't the first option.
