Most poly kids have a cousin or uncle or some other close relative who has played at a high level. They have a better understanding of what their potential ceiling is, what reasonable expectations are, and who can help them achieve those expectations than other recruits. Poly kids aren't going to play for a poly coach if they think or know that another program gives them a better chance of making the NFL or graduating or whatever their goal might be. They also may have a relative on another school's staff. These are potentially the most "in the know" recruits a coach has to approach, and their decision is going to be much more informed than counting the number of poly coaches on staff.
