There is a huge fallacy in your argument
Were you singing the same tune after Crowton tried that strategy against Stanford? I wanted to go for that first down against UCLA as much as anyone, and was shocked with that run play. But simply attempting something guarantees nothing. The "what if" game can have a lot of outcomes, not just the one you prefer, a Pick 6 or sack fumble among them.
