The one thing that often gets overlooked is that the pipeline of incoming RM's was pretty bare for Crowton. Sure he had starters that were good (Doman/Staley/O-line, etc.), but the missionaries in the system who were promised scholarships by Lavell were not up to snuff. During Lavell's last few years, his staff didn't venture too far outside of Utah County for their recruits and ended up bringing in multiple players from football powerhouses like Orem and AF.
