I think Coach K has a better chance at keeping basketball competitive than Whit has at keeping football competitive. I suspect Utah will be averaging about 6-6 in football for the foreseeable future. USC is back. UCLA is humming along. ASU is in better shape than Utah as is Arizona. The only program in their division that they are currently sitting better than is Colorado...and I suspect that won't last. Utah is competing with 3 D-1 programs in a state that is half the population of Colorado...oh...and it's "backward, religious" state. You can get 3-4 basketball players...20-25 football players is a little tougher draw.
I have to hand it to Utah. They really overachieved last year. I could be wrong. They might be on an upward trend in football, but personally I see last year as the exception and the previous two as the rule. They just don't have a hook.
