If BYU decided to let him go and hire, say, Sitake (because he and Niumatolo are the only candidates with HC experience) I would be hopeful and supportive of the decision. But, IMO, there isn't any evidence that they'd do better and I wouldn't be surprised if they did worse.
Mendenhall has had a tough run 4/5 last years by BYU standards. Similar to LEs 1986-89 and 1997-2000 years. But he at least has the distinction of having led BYU to several successful seasons so, at least we know he can do it. That's not true of any other candidate.
