It was a rugby style punt where the punter had the option to run.

He ran to the right to punt, but with the field being as wide open as it was and having 4-5 blockers, he went for the fake punt and got about 25 yards on the play and just ran out of bounds. He didn't even use his blockers. Just ran it up, got about 10 yards past the first down and stepped out of bounds.

It was a player option.

That said - Wyoming happened like 6-7 years ago now.
