There are some cynical A's fans who believe that Billy sent Milone down to delay
his free agency one more year. I guess if Milone had stayed up, based on the calculations used to determine Major League service, he would have been eligible for FA after 2016. If he stays down until September, its 2017.
But I think you are right. DFA Johnson, Start Milone, and make Chavez the long guy out of the bullpen.
I think he was just hoping he could find a way to trade him for something, anything.
