I've actually seen this work with my own eyes. It was about 15 years ago,
The offense came out and the defense lined up "wrong" in a punt formation. Qb was sacked.
We tried it a few more times after that, but it was not worth the gamble. 10% of the time, QB was sacked. 80% of the time, we gave up a TD. 10 % of the time, we gave up big yardage.
I don't have the exact breakdowns by team/offensive package. Maybe I'll bust out my Sega Genesis this weekend and see if I can get some more "in depth" analysis.
