they are owned by food insurance (their online sales channel/brand), so you can get a rough estimate of what you should be paying for the food... but you are right they could charge you anything since there is no pricing on the db site.
The product is fairly good it's just overpriced, half of their food line is Mountain House and the other half is made by a company whose name I can't share but produces a pretty good product (we use the same company for some of our meals).
Overall though the pricing is not very good. Their food storage kits have about 1/2 to 2/3 of the calories of other companies similarly priced kits. They have to have a ridiculously high margin to be able to afford their glenn beck contact (as well as Jimmers though I have no clue what that ran them, whereas we know the exact amount they paid for Beck's endorsement).
I know these things because I work at a competing company and keeping an eye on the competitive landscape is part of my job
