The average decent movie typically sees a drop off around 40-50% between first and second weekend.
A terrible film pushes that to 60 or even (gasp) 70%. Panic time.
The mega blockbuster, something like an Avatar or Avengers sequel with good word of mouth can hold strong for weeks. If you’re in the 20-30% drop off range at the second weekend, break out the champagne and cigars—you’re headed to the moon. 💰 💰 💰
75% for a film that cost twice as much as Avengers Endgame is a disaster of epic proportions. Investors irate. Major studio shakeup. Heads will roll. Careers over. That kind of thing.
But this is Disney, so who knows? Kathleen Kennedy only seemed to grow more powerful with each flop. Maybe they promote the failed snow white producer to studio boss? 🤷♀️
