I had my left thumb dislocated, bone and socket shattered playing basketball.
Bone poked thru the skin. It was during a HS basketball scrimmage. Showed several of the cheerleaders while on the way to the locker room. Two fainted. At my 50th HS reunion they still hadn't forgiven me.

At the time, it was a bit gory but I couldn't feel anything. That part came later. The family doctor did the surgery to fix the bone and rebuild the shattered socket. Once it healed, I've never had a problem with it in 54 years. Left a nice scar that impresses the grandkids.

I was running and dove for a loose ball, then collided another players foot going the opposite direction. The team took 2nd in state that year,... mainly because I missed most of the season. My replacement had considerably more upside than me.
